Whilst players across the globe gear up for the World Cup, Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White might still be wondering what might have been.

Gibbs-White scored 18 goals and claimed seven assists during 2025/26, yet it still wasn’t enough to convince Thomas Tuchel that he deserved a place in his England squad.

Forest’s number 10 Gibbs-White refused to criticise Tuchel when quizzed on his omission, but he will almost certainly find it hard to watch his England teammates in action this summer.

The debate over whether he should be in rumbles on, and now Kyle Walker has weighed in to the argument.

Kyle Walker wanted Morgan Gibbs-White at the World Cup

Walker has been discussing the squad of players selected by England on The Sun Sport podcast, and talk quickly turned towards the number 10 situation.

Having played with Cole Palmer at Manchester City, Walker was asked first about his omission and, after suggesting he should have missed out, lavished praise on Gibbs-White.

He said: “Listen, things happen, I think Cole would be the first to say his form hasn’t been good enough. I probably would’ve taken Morgan Gibbs-White. He’s been fantastic for Forest.”

Gibbs-White not going to the World Cup is disappointing for the player, but from a Forest perspective, at least he will come back well rested.

The number 10 has been magnificent and having finished the season close to his best, it’s exciting to see what he can achieve during 2025/26.

Gibbs-White cares deeply about playing for England, and the fact that Phil Foden and Palmer were left out playing for top clubs suggests it wouldn’t have mattered who he was playing for.

Evangelos Marinakis fought hard to keep Gibbs-White last summer, and hopefully, he can now do the same 12 months down the line.
