Manchester City have played their opening hand in the quest to sign Elliot Anderson this summer.

The Forest number eight will be England’s number eight at the World Cup this summer, and naturally, he’s attracting interest from top clubs.

If Manchester City were to offer a player to sweeten the Elliot Anderson deal, who would you like included?

Anderson has been mesmerising for Forest over the last two seasons since checking in from Newcastle for £35 million in a deal that became somewhat cheaper when Odysseas Vlachodimos went to Newcastle for £20 million.

Now, City have made their opening bid for the player, and it appears as though Forest have given their Premier League rivals an immediate response.

Nottingham Forest reject Manchester City bid

According to David Ornstein writing for The Athletic, City have upped the ante in the bid to sign Anderson by submitting a formal bid.

It’s not clear what the bid is, but it can’t be remotely close to the £115 million valuation, with Evangelos Marinakis rejecting the terms.

The Forest owner wants a British transfer record to be broken if Anderson is to leave Forest this summer, and City will now decide whether to come back with a re-negotiation.

City are losing John Stones and Bernardo Silva this summer, and as a result, some gaps in their squad need to be plugged ahead of the new campaign.

Forest want Moises Caicedo to be benchmark for Anderson transfer

With three years left on Anderson’s deal, Forest are under no pressure to sell.

In recent years, Declan Rice has gone to Arsenal for around £100 million, whilst Moises Caicedo tops that after he signed for Chelsea for £112 million.

👀When both of their careers have finished who will have the bigger collection of trophies – Elliot Anderson or Declan Rice?

He might not have won the PL title but is it fair to say Anderson has been better than Rice this season?🤔

Forest clearly feel as though Anderson is just as important to them as those players were to those clubs and City will have to think again if they thought they were going to get Anderson on the cheap.

This one does look set to rumble on and it remains to be seen just how far City are willing to go in the quest to sign Anderson this summer.
