Nottingham Forest are expected to overhaul their attacking ranks this summer transfer window.

Vitor Pereira needs more firepower to really kick on next season, so Nottingham Forest chiefs have been drawing up a shortlist of striking targets.

Forest are looking at Jean-Philippe Mateta, with Crystal Palace willing to sanction his sale for around £25m.

👀Could Lois Openda be our number one striker next season?

Does the fact he scored twice in 37 games during 2025/26 bother you at all?🤔

Juventus’ Lois Openda has also been linked to the City Ground, with a £38m price tag mooted for the 26-year-old.

Now, there is a fresh rumour emerging about a different Serie A centre-forward who is catching the eye of the Tricky Trees.

Nottingham Forest add Santiago Castro to transfer shortlist

According to Il Resto Del Carlino, Nottingham Forest are showing an interest in signing Bologna striker Santiago Castro.

In fact, the Italian outlet claim that Forest have already ‘tested the waters’, so perhaps they’ve made a formal approach.

Castro is valued at around £34m by the Serie A outfit, with Chelsea and Aston Villa also circling the 21-year-old.

The Argentina youth international netted 11 times whilst laying on four assists last term, which followed a 10-goal campaign the year prior.

If Manchester City were to offer a player to sweeten the Elliot Anderson deal, who would you like included?

Evidently, Castro is still in the development phase of his career, so it would be a slight risk to bring him to the Premier League at such a young age.

However, Forest can afford to bed him in slowly, as they can rely on Chris Wood and Igor Jesus to share the workload.

So, the transfer makes a lot of sense, as clearly Castro has the potential to become one of Europe’s most prolific number nines.

Castro’s previous manager Vincenzo Italiano explained that he’s got the correct attitude to really progress to the next level.

“Santi has something so important for this sport, which is the hunger he shows every day, every training session, every minute on the field. Even on the team bus, he’s the one talking about football.

“It is a pleasure to work with such young players who are so hungry, so eager to help their teammates. I’m very happy that he is now scoring regularly too.

“He really is very mature for his age, and a team player, who as a centre-forward makes enormous sacrifices for the squad with his work off the ball. I always tell him, that work will pay off, don’t worry.”
