Nottingham Forest will place a striker on their shortlist for the summer transfer window.

Chris Wood, Igor Jesus and Taiwo Awoniyi are the current striker options at the City Ground, but Vitor Pereira is keen for another option.

🤝Who should be the FIRST player sold by Nottingham Forest this summer?

Forest struggled for goals prior to Pereira coming to the club last season, and Evangelos Marinakis will want to ensure the same doesn’t happen next season.

The club’s recruitment policy is casting the net far and wide this summer, but it would appear as though the club are keen on a Premier League striker.

Nottingham Forest want Jean-Philippe Mateta

According to Foot Mercato journalist Sebastien Vidan, Forest are going to return stronger than ever to sign Mateta this summer.

The striker recently helped Crystal Palace win the UEFA Conference League but the Eagles are struggling to make progress on a deal for the striker.

Mateta was eyed by Forest in January but he chose AC Milan before failing a medical and then being forced to wait patiently for his chance again in Oliver Glasner’s team.

The 28-year-old finished on 16 goals from 50 appearances in all competitions, including the winning goal in the Conference League final.

It’s not clear how much Mateta would be available for, but a fee in the region of £25 million is being mentioned, given his contract situation.

Pereira likely wants a proven Premier League striker this summer, and clearly, Mateta ticks that box.

Fill in the blank: Jean Philippe Mateta would be a __/10 summer signing…🤔

The Crystal Palace striker is linked with Forest again!

It does feel, however, as though there will be an issue with Forest getting this deal over the line this summer.

Mateta won’t have European football on the agenda if he moves to Forest, and perhaps this is the work of an agent trying to alert other clubs to his availability.

Forest would dearly love a striker with proven Premier League quality and if Mateta can’t be obtained, it would be good if the club remained in that particular market for a different player.
