Nottingham Forest are going in search of a number of players, with some January targets likely to be revisited.

Forest didn’t do much business during the mid-season window, with Stefan Ortega, Lorenzo Lucca and Luca Netz the only new additions.

The Reds did try to do a lot of business, though, but found themselves with too much to do during a tricky deadline day.

With Elliot Anderson attracting interest from Manchester City, it’s clear that a midfielder will be the order of the day, with one January target now preferring a move elsewhere instead.

Arne Engels prefers Sunderland move

Reports in Italy have claimed that the Celtic midfielder Engels prefers a move to Sunderland this month, given that they’re in the Europa League next season.

The Black Cats enjoyed a brilliant maiden campaign back in the Premier League, finishing seventh and qualifying for Europe.

Tuttomercatoweb make the claim about Engels, and it looks set to leave Forest frustrated after a long pursuit to sign the Belgium international.

Engels has proved a dab hand at taking set-pieces at Celtic, and he’s earned praise from Martin O’Neill in recent months for his Parkhead form.

Now, Forest will have to look at other midfielders this summer and quickly move on to other targets, with Engels seemingly not keen on switching to the City Ground.

With Anderson set to depart the club this summer, the midfield recruits need to be spot on and it’s fair to say that Engels might have proved a somewhat underwhelming signing.
