Nottingham Forest have already lined up Vitor Pereira’s replacement.
After news broke on Wednesday afternoon that Nottingham Forest were set to sack Vitor Pereira, it seemed inevitable, due to the timing, that his successor was already poised to join.
That said, according to The Telegraph, Evangelos Marinakis has picked Oliver Glasner as the man to replace Pereira.
The report states that Glasner ‘will succeed’ Pereira as the new Forest boss, so the process is clearly close to being finalised.
VITOR PEREIRA IS SET TO LEAVE NOTTINGHAM FOREST! WHAT ARE YOUR INSTANT THOUGHTS?
Who do we even get next!?
The outlet further claims that discussions are still ongoing over Pereira’s exit, so perhaps that’s centred around the compensation fee he is owed.
The 57-year-old still has one year remaining on his contract at the City Ground, so Marinakis will have to pay out his deal.
Could the timing of Vitor Pereira’s exit be PSR-related?
Interestingly, Pereira’s sacking comes one day after the end of the financial year for Nottingham Forest.
Perhaps Marinakis and his chiefs deliberately delayed the decision until the new financial year to avoid a PSR breach.
The Tricky Trees may have been close to the threshold and couldn’t afford to pay a compensation fee in last year’s accounts.
Indeed, Glasner won’t be joining on the cheap either; the Austrian manager will likely be placed on a handsome contract.
At Palace, the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss was reportedly earning around £4m-a-year, which puts him as one of the highest-earning managers outside of the big six.
He would’ve no doubt been offered a pay rise on top of that by Forest, so there is good reason to suggest the timing of this decision is related to finances.
Anyhow, Forest seem to have got their man, and many will argue Glasner is a substantial upgrade that will push this team towards Europe.
It’s been 36 years since the East Midlanders won their last major trophy, which was a League Cup under Brian Clough in 1990.
Could Glasner, who won two major honours at Palace and a Europa League with Frankfurt, break that trend?
