Nottingham Forest are replacing Vitor Pereira with Oliver Glasner.

Oliver Glasner is set to sign a three-year contract with Nottingham Forest, which sends out a real statement of intent from Evangelos Marinakis.

Glasner departed Crystal Palace last month after delivering an FA Cup and the Conference League trophy in his only two full seasons in South London.

A good appointment? 🤔

The Austrian head coach will report for pre-season this month ahead of his first friendly against Notts County on July 18.

Ahead of his imminent arrival, Nottingham Forest News has spoken exclusively to We Are Palace journalist Billy Meyers to get the lowdown on what to expect from the 51-year-old.

What is Oliver Glasner’s philosophy?

“Glasner was wedded to a 3-4-2-1 system at Palace, focused on pressing high up the pitch and winning the ball back in dangerous areas, with three speedy centre-backs to cover in case an opponent did break through the press,” Meyers explained.

“With wing-backs providing the width, it really did feel like we had 12 players on the pitch at times.”

Who will excel and struggle in Glasner’s system?

“I can see natural wingers like Omari Hutchinson and Callum Hudson-Odoi struggling, considering Glasner uses wing-backs to provide the width and prefers inside forwards as opposed to touchline wingers.

“Neco Williams is the one I’m tipping to thrive under the Austrian in that respect.”

Glasner seemed to fall out with Parish, how do you think he’ll handle Marinakis?

“Honestly, I cannot see a world in which Glasner and Marinakis get along. Had Glasner hit out at the Greek like he did towards Steve Parish back in January, it surely would have been a swift dismissal.

“It feels like he had his eyes on the vacancies at Manchester United, Chelsea and AC Milan and is now settling for less after those roles were filled.”

What are Glasner’s weaknesses?

“Glasner can be quite stubborn if his tactics are failing – there were two occasions Crystal Palace embarked on lengthy winless runs under his guidance, most recently when the likes of Ismaila Sarr, Daniel Munoz and Daichi Kamada were absent.

“It proved he can struggle with missing one or two of his key men and fails to adapt.”

Do you expect Glasner to succeed at Forest?

“I think Glasner will be fine at Nottingham Forest, but I would be shocked if he managed to continue winning silverware at the City Ground.

“If he can win yet another trophy with the Reds, then he will have undoubtedly proven himself as a bona fide winner.”
