Glasner has now been announced at the City Ground and comes on the back of his success in the UEFA Conference League with Crystal Palace.

The head coach also won the FA Cup at Selhurst Park, and after putting pen to paper at Forest, the Austrian has spoken for the first time.

Oliver Glasner’s first words as Nottingham Forest head coach

It’s fair to say that Glasner has taken a little subtle dig at the lack of backing he received during his time with Crystal Palace.

New players came at a premium for Glasner at Palace, and last summer, despite losing Eberechi Eze, Steve Parish never pushed the boat out for him in the transfer market.

Upon his arrival at Forest, Glasner was clearly keen to make it clear that he was going to receive plenty of backing from Marinakis.

He said: “I’m delighted to join Nottingham Forest as head coach. From my very first conversations with the owner and the leadership team, it was evident to me that they have a clear vision for this football club and complete trust and belief in my staff and me to build a strong future together over the long term. That trust and shared commitment, together with the potential that I see within the squad, were key factors for me, and I am excited about what we can achieve together.

“Nottingham Forest is a club with incredible prestige and history, a two-time European Champion with one of the most passionate fan bases in football. Our aim is to build a team that can help take the club to the next level in the years ahead and that our supporters can be proud of.

“My immediate focus is on meeting the players and staff and getting to work as we begin pre-season. I’m excited for the future and will work tirelessly to represent this great club with pride and to bring success on the pitch. I can’t wait to get started.”

The fact that he’s mentioned the backing he’s going to receive at the City Ground is very intriguing indeed and is perhaps aimed as a thinly veiled dig towards Crystal Palace.

Still, Palace’s loss is Forest’s gain and it’s obvious that Glasner can’t wait to get going on Trentside.

Glasner being in place in time for the pre-season campaign getting underway and the Reds jetting off to Portugal is a very useful step.

Far too much upheaval happened last summer, with Nuno Espírito Santo enduring a rift with Edu, which in turn led to a chaotic start to the season.

Now, Forest look completely aligned, and ultimately, the challenge is to add some players to the ranks and look to kick on during the 2026/27 campaign.

Glasner is a proven winner, and now, it will be fascinating to see which players he wants to bring to the club and exactly what the club can achieve under his management.
