Glasner will report for pre-season later this month, with the first friendly taking place on July 18 against Notts County.

The Austrian head coach will be keen to get reinforcements in as early as possible, and there are indications of the type of player he may try to sign.

Glasner’s first Palace signing suggests Forest will target ball-playing defender

Glasner was appointed Crystal Palace manager in February 2024, so he didn’t sign his first player until the summer window.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt boss immediately invested in a ball-playing centre-back, with Chadi Riad arriving in a £14m deal from Real Betis.

Quite notably, Riad is a left-footed defender, so clearly Glasner wanted a balanced back three with each centre-back able to play out comfortably.

That indicates that Forest will now press ahead and get another centre-back through the door as quickly as possible.

Murillo is certainly very capable of playing Glasner’s system, and so too is Nikola Milenkovic, but their other options may not be up to standard.

Morato and Jair Cunha will probably need to be upgraded, and Forest are already looking at a centre-back in Italy.

It has been widely reported that Forest are eyeing Jan Ziolkowski, who is a highly-rated young defender at AS Roma.

The Tricky Trees had a £13m bid rejected for Ziolkowski earlier in the window, so perhaps they’ll reignite their interest following Glasner’s arrival at the City Ground.
