Forget Givairo Read, Nottingham Forest could sign fan favourite for just £25m this summer

Nottingham Forest are locked in talks with Feyenoord over the summer signing of Givairo Read.

Forest have seen a bid rejected for Read already, with Feyenoord likely to stand firm on a £30 million valuation.

Is Givairo Read the right player to provide competition for Ola Aina?

Read is viewed as a right-back, but his attacking tendencies would make him tailor-made to Oliver Glasner’s 3-4-3 system.

Whether Read is actually obtainable remains to be seen, but one way or another, a new right-back will be landing at the City Ground this summer.

With talks of a right-back coming intensifying, there is one player currently available this summer who might prove even more popular than Read should Forest sign him.

Forest should rival Everton for Djed Spence

Say what you want about Djed Spence and his supposed bad attitude, but he will forever be welcome on Trentside.

Spence was instrumental during the promotion-winning season of 2021/22, during a loan spell from Middlesbrough that subsequently earned him a move to Tottenham.

The Reds tried desperately to get him to sign following promotion, but ultimately, Steve Cooper was unable to turn his head back towards the City Ground after Tottenham became interested.

His time at Tottenham has been interesting. Loan spells with Genoa and Leeds proved uninspiring, but Ange Postecoglou’s appointment saw him thrust into the first team.

In total, Spence has made 85 appearances for Spurs, helping the team win the Europa League during the 2024/25 campaign but it would appear his time might be up.

Everton are linked with Spence and for £25 million, he could be a superb pick up by Forest, with a new right-back on the shortlist this summer.

In the modern era, you can barely sign anyone for £25 million, and given that Spence is currently forming part of England’s World Cup squad, he would prove a solid signing.

Spence gets forward extremely well, and given that he’s already got a strong rapport with the City Ground faithful, there would be very little in the way of a settling-in period.

Spence would surely welcome Forest move

Back in 2022, Spence might have held reservations over whether or not Forest could remain in the Premier League.

Now, however, the Reds have proved that they’re capable of establishing themselves as a top-flight club for many years to come, and that could play into Spence’s thought process.

🤔For £25m would you take Djed Spence back at Nottingham Forest?

Spence has spoken previously about how grateful he is to Forest for the faith they showed in him, and without the Reds, the defender definitely wouldn’t be where he is today.

At £25 million, this deal feels too good not to do and with Everton set to go in for the England defender, it feels like a no-brainer should Read be unattainable from a Forest perspective.
