How Nottingham Forest’s January call now makes a lot more sense after Oliver Glasner appointment

Nottingham Forest fans were incensed during the January transfer window given the lack of activity.

With Sean Dyche seemingly taking Forest back to the EFL, fans were up in arms that the signings weren’t more frequent and of better quality.

In fairness, Stefan Ortega proved to be a very good signing, and most fans were disappointed that his contract wasn’t extended.

The other two have had an indifferent level of success.

Luca Netz looked impressive towards the end of the campaign at left-back and is one for the future, with Lorenzo Lucca proving a disastrous addition.

Although the January window wasn’t fruitful, now it’s all starting to make sense why Evangelos Marinakis didn’t push the boat out a little bit more.

Reason for quiet January window at Forest is now evident

In usual Marinakis fashion, there is always a plan, and that is evident here.

Clearly, the quiet window stems from the fact that Marinakis always preempted the idea that another managerial change would take place in the summer.

Oliver Glasner claimed at Christmas that he would be leaving Crystal Palace, and he mentioned discussions with Marinakis in his opening gambit after taking the Forest job.

What should Oliver Glasner’s target be in the Premier League this season? 🤔

Oliver Glasner question.

With that in mind, it’s hardly surprising that he chose to stockpile players when, in reality, he clearly never quite fancied that Dyche would be a long-term appointment.

Glasner now has a squad that is full of quality and potential without the need to sell dead wood before he gets to work recruiting new players.

Ultimately, Marinakis has to be lauded for this approach and now it’s time for the fans to truly get behind this exciting project with Glasner at the helm.
