The head coach moved from Crystal Palace for the City Ground earlier this month, with his contract expiring at Selhurst Park.

Glasner won the FA Cup, the UEFA Conference League and the Community Shield during his time in South East London with the Eagles.

Now, Evangelos Marinakis has finally got his man over the line, and Glasner has taken some time to thank the man who he’s replaced this summer.

Oliver Glasner thanks Vitor Pereira for Forest work

In the eyes of some Forest supporters, Pereira was cruelly dismissed after his work last season.

However, replacing him with Glasner is a clear statement of intent from Marinakis, and with the Austrian out of work, it made sense to pull the trigger.

Glasner sat down with ex-Reds star David Prutton after checking in at the City Ground and had some praise for Pereira.

He said: “Oh yes, I think Vitor did a great job at the end of the season.

“The team was really fighting against getting relegated, and then he came in and did brilliantly and also played in the semi-final of the Europa League.

“So, huge credit to Vitor for what he has done and how he achieved all the goals at the end of the season.

“This is part of football, but it makes it easier for all of us to start on a higher level with the players, and this helps us to hopefully have a better start to the season.

“So yes, huge credit to Vitor.”

Pereira can take heart from Forest tenure

Pereira is one of the game’s good guys.

Forest will remember his time at the club fondly as the team played solid football, claimed some big wins and showed togetherness that was absent under Sean Dyche before him.

Had Glasner not been available, it would have been a no-brainer to keep hold of Pereira for another season, but Marinakis felt it was necessary to act on this occasion.

Pereira will definitely work in football again, and after proving Wolves wrong to sack him, he could well be eyeing a return to England at some point.

Glasner is naturally an upgrade on Pereira from a project point of view at Forest but the former incumbent can take a lot of heart from how his time on Trentside went.
