Xaver Schlager is set to sign for Nottingham Forest on a free transfer after leaving RB Leipzig.
The 28-year-old featured for Austria in all four of their games at the World Cup and turned down the offer of a new contract in Germany.
🤝Nottingham Forest are set to sign midfielder Xaver Schlager on a free transfer. How happy are you with this signing?
Let us have your thoughts in the comments!
Clearly, Schlager is keen to link back up with Glasner after spending time playing under the Austrian head coach at Wolfsburg.
Naturally, the fact that the pair are reuniting suggests that this is definitely a Glasner signing, and this is the start of a clear plan when it comes to recruitment from a Forest perspective.

Xaver Schlager’s record under Oliver Glasner
As soon as it emerged that Schlager was signing for Forest, it became an instant prerequisite to have a look at just how he’s performed under the head coach.
At Wolfsburg, the pair achieved relative success without winning silverware, and the team largely did well under his tutelage.
Schlager’s record under Glasner reads as follows:
- Played: 66
- Won: 33
- Drew: 15
- Lost: 18
Schlager showed some decent form himself too, scoring three goals, claiming eight assists and also picking up 13 yellow cards under the management of Glasner.
Some previous comments suggest why Schlager likes working under Glasner, and this could prove to be a very useful signing indeed.
Glasner is clearly already having a say when it comes to transfers, and that is extremely positive from a Forest point of view.
Now, more signings will be needed with another midfielder, a right-back and a striker likely to be among the targets identified by the new head coach.
