Nottingham Forest are stepping up their recruitment drive as Oliver Glasner begins to settle at the City Ground.

The Austrian head coach has already overseen wins over Notts County and Blackburn in pre-season, with the squad busy getting down to work.

Xaver Schlager has become Forest’s first signing of the summer, with Ousmane Diomande thought to have agreed on personal terms ahead of a transfer from Sporting CP.

Now, Glasner will want more players added to his squad, and it would appear that one transfer link did something pretty special at the World Cup.

Nicolas Tagliafico tops surprising World Cup metric

The link between Forest and Tagliafico is quite intriguing, but perhaps some latest data has gone a long way towards suggesting why he’s wanted by the Reds.

Tagliafico played frequently for Argentina as they reached the World Cup final before losing to Spain and the statistics show he actually registered the quickest sprint of the whole tournament.

Tagliafico clocked 36.2 km/h during the tournament, with efforts from Jules Kounde and Djibril Sow coming in slightly lower than the left-back’s.

The defender showed his ability to get up and down the pitch for Argentina across the tournament but whether he’d be able to do it in the Premier League remains to be seen.

Forest should tread with caution with Tagliafico

Although Tagliafico did enjoy a strong World Cup there is a big difference playing against the likes of Jordan and Austria to featuring in the Premier League.

At 33, the Argentine has never played in England and that in itself is a huge risk to take.

Forest would, however, welcome a bit more experience in the squad and if Glasner saw him being capable of playing as a left-sided wing-back perhaps there is a deal to be done.

Tagliafico has lots of experience at the top level but with this one there seems to be more cons than pros to Forest doing a deal.
