Nottingham Forest parted with Vitor Pereira in the summer as the lure of appointing Oliver Glasner proved too strong for Evangelos Marinakis.
On the face of things, Pereira didn’t do a lot wrong at Forest. He steadied the ship after the Sean Dyche debacle leading the club to safety with two games to spare and reached the semi-final of the Europa League.

Pereira did what Dyche couldn’t and united the Forest fan base and as a result, it was somewhat surprising when the reports came that the Portuguese boss would be departing the City Ground.
As with most things in football everything comes out in the wash and it’s now been suggested what the final straw for Marinakis might have been when it came to Pereira.

Perhaps the writing was on the wall for Pereira during the 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa which cost the Reds a place in the Europa League Final.
It’s been suggested in reports from The Telegraph that Marinakis was left angered by Pereira’s decision to put Murillo on in the closing stages of the second leg with the game well and truly gone.
Putting him on the pitch when clearly injured aggravated his hamstring problem and led to a turbulent end of the campaign.
Murillo is Forest’s most important defensive player and ultimately the Reds will hope that he can enjoy less injury concerns during the forthcoming season.
Pereira’s mistake could now impact Glasner
Murillo is only just back on the grass after his latest hamstring injury.
As a result, Glasner is going to count the cost of the decision made by Pereira back in the Europa League semi-final.
That’s because Glasner now has to wait for Murillo to get fully fit, with the Brazilian missing all three friendly contests the Reds have played so far.
The defender is only just joining in with training this week so a run out against Sporting CP on Friday might not be viable either.

Murillo has transformed Forest defensively and his ability to play out from the back will be huge in Glasner’s system at the City Ground.
Now, only time will tell just how costly Pereira’s error proves to be for Glasner as he looks to start well with Forest in 2026/27.
