Nottingham Forest have already rejected several advances from the clubs vying to sign Brennan Johnson, according to Football Insider.

The 20-year-old has been in fine form for Lincoln City during 2020/21, registering 26 goal contributions for the Imps.

Johnson will head to Wembley this weekend for the League One play-off final, before returning to Forest in the summer.

The report claims that plenty of clubs are keen to sign the versatile attacker, although the Reds are standing firm.

It is thought that boss Chris Hughton is earmarking Johnson for a starring role at the City Ground next season.

Forest finished 17th in the Championship during 2020/21 and improvements are needed for next season.

The Reds were desperately lacking in the final third and Johnson is definitely someone who can revive that aspect of their play.

An academy graduate, Johnson has played eight games for the Forest senior ranks, although he’s still waiting for a proper chance.

After signing plenty of proven, experienced performers last summer, it’s time for a change in strategy for Forest.

Johnson must be handed a chance to star next season and others should follow him.

Tyrese Fornah and Jordan Gabriel also enjoyed decent loan spells this season and could come into the fray. Alex Mighten and Loic Mbe Soh are also highly-rated members of the Reds’ squad.

Changing of the guard

Forest have to change their recruitment strategy and younger players with a desire to impress are a must.

Johnson has done absolutely everything asked of him at Lincoln and selling him is unthinkable. It would rile the fan base and make for a toxic environment ahead of the new campaign.

Johnson looks like the real deal and Forest would be wise to continue quashing the advances of interested parties.

The next step is first-team stardom and nothing should stand in the way of Johnson earning a Forest chance.
