Micah Richards thinks that Evangelos Marinakis has just made a seriously big mistake as the owner of Nottingham Forest.

The Reds drew 1-1 with Wolves on Saturday and afterwards, it’s thought that Marinakis headed down to the tunnel to speak with players.

Now, Richards has spoken in his column for the Daily Mail that he believes that decision will prove to be a massive mistake.

Forest are now without a win in seven matches. Quite clearly, things have to change if the Reds are to stay in the division and Marinakis isn’t happy.

Marinakis has done some positive things at the club since he arrived. However, at Forest and Olympiacos, he’s not afraid of making big and usually unpopular decisions.

Richards doesn’t think his decision to confront players on Saturday will help anyone at all.

He told the Daily Mail: “Evangelos Marinakis, Nottingham Forest’s owner is said to have headed to the tunnel to deliver some home truths to the squad after the draw with Wolves.

That will certainly not have helped the players nor will it have helped Steve Cooper, their excellent manager.

“I remember Khaldoon Al-Mubarak coming in to see us at Manchester City when we had lost games but it was always with a message of staying positive.

“If Marinakis wanted to get things off his chest, he should have waited to do it in private.”

The Reds owner must have a careful think about his next big call, with Cooper’s position under threat.

Last week it was announced that season cards would be going up in price and Marinakis must now carefully weigh things up.

If Forest change their manager with a handful of their fixtures remaining, then it could prove fatal to their survival hopes anyway.

Should Cooper stay, the players will be buoyed and they will feel as though they want to survive this season to help their head coach out.

Forest have hit the skids of late. That isn’t all through the fault of Cooper though and the injury list at the City Ground has tied his hands somewhat.

Swinging the axe now would be seriously detrimental and a morale-boosting win over Leeds tomorrow night would be ideal for Cooper.
