Nottingham Forest are eyeing a shock move to make Patrick Vieira their new manager if Steve Cooper is dismissed by Evangelos Marinakis.

The Reds chief has come under fire lately following a run of seven winless games and the Daily Mail reports targets are being lined-up.

Vieira is keen on a quick return to football. He was sacked by Crystal Palace just last month following an alarming slide down the table.

The 46-year-old spent 20 months in charge of the Eagles. He oversaw 74 matches, winning just 22 of them and leaving with a win ratio of 29%.

Given that Palace chose to sack him just weeks ago, this would seem a ridiculous appointment.

Cooper has worked wonders at Forest and although the team is currently in awful form, there’s an argument that they will be no better with Vieira.

Forest travel to Leeds later and this does feel like strange timing for this piece to come to fruition.

It’s the second time in a few days that the Daily Mail have released a report on Cooper’s future just hours before kick-off in a big game.

This could also be the work of a proactive agent. Vieira might be keen on a quick return to the game and this release lets clubs know of his availability.

Forest eyeing shock move for Vieira and it would be a huge mistake

This has all the makings of being an absolute disaster. Forest would likely still get relegated and the man who spent many years playing for Arsenal has zero Championship experience.

At which point, Forest would be back to square one. At least if the club goes down with Cooper at the helm, they have a manager who knows what it takes to bring them back.

Vieira didn’t set the league alight at Palace. It’s fair to say that most fans were glad to see the back of him and as a result, this has all the makings of a disasterclass by Marinakis if he goes ahead with this one.
