Nottingham Forest star Danilo has explained one thing that he hopes to achieve by playing regularly for the club during 2023/24. The talented midfielder will head into his maiden full campaign with the Reds and he has been training hard this week.

The players who weren’t on international duty at the end of the season have returned this week. Footballs came out yesterday after two days where the squad has been put through some rigorous fitness drills by the coaching staff.

Danilo came of age during his run of form in the Forest team towards the end of the season. After arriving in January he took some time to settle but during the club’s run-in, he was outstanding.

The 22-year-old scored in three successive games against Brighton, Brentford and Southampton in April. He was handed starts in eight of the final nine games and he didn’t disappoint.

Danilo has settled really well at the City Ground. He’s bright, forward-thinking, energetic and furthermore, he’s already showcased that he can cope with the physical demands of England.

Now, the Brazilian has his eyes on another prize. After being called into the Brazil squad at the end of the season but not playing, the youngster is now keen to hold down a place on the international stage.

He told Globo: “Now, I’m going to do a full season. I’m already adapted to the country, the language, the style of play and we hope to have a quieter season. I had the opportunity to be called by Tite and it was very rewarding. If I keep working and playing well the chance will come so I have to focus on playing good games next season.”

The midfielder will definitely go on to star on the international stage. It’s only a matter of time now he’s playing regularly for Forest and he should kick on next season.

Danilo has been a quality signing by the Reds. At £16 million from Palmeiras, some fans might have been forgiven for wondering if the club had overspent.

South American players can sometimes struggle with the transition to European football but Danilo already looks like an absolute bargain from Forest’s perspective.

Brazil beckons for Danilo and a cap could come sooner rather than later for the Forest man.
