Nottingham Forest are targeting the deadline day transfer of SL Benfica star Odysseas Vlachodimos. So, here is everything you need to know about the Reds’ likely recruit.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Vlachodimos is currently on his way to England to complete a deadline day move to Nottingham Forest. The Reds reached an agreement with Benfica for a last-gasp deal on Friday morning. Cooper sought his signature to provide extra depth in goal.

Nottingham Forest have already added to their options between the sticks this summer with Matt Turner arriving from Arsenal. But Cooper sought to land further depth having relied on Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas to keep his City Ground team in the top-flight last term.

Who is Odysseas Vlachodimos and how good is he?

Odysseas Vlachodimos has been on SL Benfica’s books since July 2018 but is now set for a deadline day transfer to Nottingham Forest. The Reds will be the German-born star’s fourth professional side after earlier spells at VfB Stuttgart (2002-16) and Panathinaikos (2016-18).

Stuttgart signed Vlachodimos as an academy gem after first honing his skill at VfL Stuttgart-Wangen as a youth. He rose through Die Roten’s ranks to make his first-team debut with the Bundesliga club in August 2015. Stuttgart ushered him into senior action after he turned 21.

But Vlachodimos failed to establish himself in Stuttgart’s first-team before moving to Greece after just three appearances. Yet joining Panathinaikos allowed the long-term German youth gem to build a career. He had represented Germany at U15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21 levels.

Panathinaikos would give Vlachodimos 63 games, which returned 34 clean sheets to just 45 goals conceded. While he also made his senior international debut for Greece in November 2018. Vlachodimos has since gone on to amass 33 caps and has kept 15 clean sheets so far.

Angelos Anastasiadis gave Vlachodimos his senior international debut with Greece after the goalkeeper joined Benfica. While his time with As Aguias has yielded 225 appearances in all competitions. He also has 94 clean sheets, including 19 shut outs from 57 European fixtures.

Now, Vlachodimos’ form with Benfica is set to secure him a deadline day transfer to the City Ground as Nottingham Forest eye last-gasp signings. The German-born Greece international has one clean sheet in two games this season and kept 28 shut outs in 54 games last term.

Where and when was Odysseas Vlachodimos born?

Odysseas Vlachodimos was born in Stuttgart, Germany on April 26, 1994 but is also eligible to represent Greece. Nottingham Forest’s deadline day target switched his allegiance after a lengthy junior international career for Die Mannschaft without making a senior appearance.
