Nottingham Forest loanee Omar Richards has now picked up another injury. Olympiacos face West Ham in the Europa League tonight and the defender has been ruled out.

Richards has endured a rotten stroke of luck over the last year and a bit. He suffered a hairline fracture to his shin shortly after signing for the club and then needed a hernia operation.

Olympiacos have made a strong start to 2023/24 and sit top of the Greek Super League. Tonight, they will look to showcase their credentials on the European stage against the current UEFA Conference League holders.

Richards injured again after leaving Forest on loan

It’s really hard not to feel some level of sympathy for Forest defender Richards. Now, he looks like another short spell on the sidelines as he bids to make his first appearance for Olympiacos.

The left-back has suffered a pulled muscle on this occasion. That news comes from the Greek outlet In Sports who have announced that he won’t play this evening.

Forest paid around £10 million for Richards in the summer of 2022. He was expected to rival Harry Toffolo for a place in the team but injury struck to leave him sidelined.

Richards will be desperate to play again

Since leaving Bayern Munich, Richards hasn’t played a game for either Forest or Olympiacos. He will be considered part of the squad in Greece once he can get fully fit and that’s where his focus lies.

It had seemed as though the player was on his way back to full fitness in pre-season. However, Richards has been through so much with his body that Forest erred on the side of caution.

The 25-year-old does have time on his side but he will be missing the buzz of playing regular games. Forest-owned Richards will have to wait for his first appearance and a date with West Ham is off the agenda for him tonight.
