Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper has explained what he told his players after last night’s 5-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage.
The Reds were battered in West London to leave Cooper on the brink. Claims this morning have suggested that Marco Silva could be on the radar of Forest.
Forest are still six points clear of the relegation zone. However, that will change tonight should Everton get points in their game against Newcastle.
It’s a quick turnaround for Forest who face Wolves at Molineux on Saturday. Whether Cooper is in the dugout now remains to be seen.
Cooper explains what he told his Forest players
There will be some outsiders wondering quite why Forest fans were so unanimous in their support for Cooper last night.
As the goals kept flying in, the away backing continued to get louder, with their unwavering support for Cooper evident.
Stuart Pearce called the scenes at the end extraordinary. He couldn’t believe how the Forest fans rallied around Cooper and that was nice to see.

Cooper explained after the game exactly what he told his Forest players at the end of the game. He wasn’t in the mood to mince his words and felt they needed to do more.
He said on Match of the Day: “I’m grateful, but I’m embarrassed. I didn’t deserve that from the supporters tonight. I’ve just said to them in there to the players that regardless of who is playing, who the manager is, you just can’t let these people down like that. You just can’t! To not represent the club in the way that we should is hurtful, to be honest.”
Cooper right to slam his players
Forest signed 13 new players this summer and blending them together has been hard. However, things should be going better than the one win in 11 games and it simply won’t do.
As is usually the case in football, it’s the players who get away with these things free of charge, with the manager fronting up to take the flak.
Cooper deserves more from his players than what he received last night. Whether he can survive this performance and make it to Saturday remains to be seen.
Some of Forest’s new players simply aren’t making the grade. Cooper could get another chance to get things right against Wolves but time is quickly running out.
