Gary Lineker has given his verdict on whether or not Nottingham Forest should sack Steve Cooper.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker gave his take on the future of Cooper after yet another defeat this week.

So, what has Gary Lineker said about Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper? Let’s take a look.

Gary Lineker tells Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis to keep Steve Cooper

Well, Nottingham Forest are not having the best of times at the moment. Steve Cooper’s side were hammered 5-0 by Fulham away from home at Craven Cottage in London in the Premier League in midweek.

It came after defeats to Everton and Brighton and Hove Albion at the City Ground. West Ham United also beat Forest at London Stadium in the league last month.

Steve Cooper’s side are now just four points above the relegation zone, and there is speculation that Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis could sack him.

According to The Athletic, Forest are already looking at potential replacements for Cooper. The Reds have reportedly been in touch with Oliver Glasner.

Former Leicester City striker Gary Lineker has said that Forest should not sack Cooper.

The Match of the Day presenter on BBC has noted how Leicester City parted company with Brendan Rodgers in April and still went down to the Championship at the end of last season.

Lineker said on The Rest is Football podcast: “I thought the same with Brendan Rodgers, I think sometimes the manager earns the right to at least try and keep them up and give them a run at it, because as we have always said the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. That is not always the case.”

Evangelos Marinakis should back Steve Cooper

In my view, Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis should not sack Steve Cooper. I believe that he has to stick with his manager.

Yes, I understand that Forest are in a bad run of form. They have lost their last four Premier League matches.

The Reds are involved in a relegation fight, but we all knew that it was going to be the case this season. Fans love Cooper.

Cooper kept Forest safe from relegation last season. He is now a better and more experienced manager, and I believe that he will be able to keep the team in the Premier League once again.
