Julen Lopetegui is open to taking charge of Nottingham Forest if Steve Cooper gets sacked.

That is according to talkSPORT, which has reported the situation Cooper could find himself in if Forest lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

So, what has been reported about Nottingham Forest and former Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui? Let’s take a look.

Julen Lopetegui open to becoming Nottingham Forest manager

Well, according to talkSPORT, former Real Madrid and Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Julen Lopetegui is open to taking charge of Nottingham Forest.

Forest will take on Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday. TalkSPORT has noted that should the Reds lose, then head coach Steve Cooper is “unlikely to keep his job”.

The report has noted that Lopetegui would be interested in taking over at Forest should Cooper be sacked.

The former Real Madrid boss parted company with Wolves in August and rejected the chance to work in Saudi Arabia. Lopetegui wants to manage in the Premier League again.

Julen Lopetegui a potential upgrade on Steve Cooper

I personally do not think that Nottingham Forest should sack Steve Cooper. After all, it was under him that the Reds managed to stave off relegation to the Championship at the end of last season.

I believe that Cooper, who has been linked with Crystal Palace, will be able to get Forest through the tough period and make sure that the team stay in the Premier League for next season.

However, I have to say that Julen Lopetegui would be an upgrade on Cooper. The 57-year-old is a much more experienced manager who, if given the funds and the backing to sign the players he would want, could eventually get Forest to challenge for European places in the Premier League table.

Lopetegui has been in charge of Spain, Real Madrid and Sevilla, and he did a really good job at Wolves.
