Nottingham Forest decided to part company with Steve Cooper as the club’s head coach yesterday. Now, a report has explained exactly how the players felt when they discovered the news.

Cooper ends his tenure with his head held high and Forest sat five points clear of the relegation zone. A run of one win in 13 matches shouldn’t tarnish his reputation after he kept the Reds in the Premier League last season.

It’s expected that Nuno Espirito Santo will become the new Forest head coach later today. It was claimed yesterday that he’s flying into England for talks with the Reds.

How the Forest players reacted to Steve Cooper getting sacked

According to The Telegraph, the Reds squad were disappointed as a collective with a tinge of sadness among the group. Cooper had a huge impact on the Forest squad and his departure will leave a void at the club.

The report does add some further information to the situation. It’s also claimed that although the players were sad to see Cooper depart, there had been growing frustrations over his recent tactical inconsistency.

At Wolves recently Forest made seven changes and reverted back to the 3-5-2 system that has served the Reds well in previous times. Before that, he’s often deployed a 4-3-3 at the City Ground.

Forest players now have to roll their sleeves up

If the new manager is to be Espirito Santo, it seems as though the players will get every ounce of support they need to improve. Yesterday, some quotes from Willy Boly back in 2020 made for interesting reading about the incoming head coach and his methods.

Forest can’t afford to be slow out of the blocks under Espirito Santo. They simply have to get going quickly and getting three points against Bournemouth on Saturday would settle everyone down.

Forest players now have to take responsibility for Cooper’s departure. It’s all good and well posting best wishes messages to their previous head coach on Instagram but now they have to collectively get some results.
