Yesterday was a sad day in the history of Nottingham Forest Football Club and Steve Cooper is no longer the head coach. One of the hierarchy, Miltiadis Marinakis has now sent a touching message to the departed boss.
Ultimately, football is a results-based business and Forest quite simply haven’t been getting them. Cooper has overseen just three wins all season and just one in the last 13 games.
The Reds face Bournemouth on Saturday looking for a big three points to go into the Christmas period. They then face Newcastle on their travels and Manchester United at home.

Marinakis has now called time on Cooper’s tenure. It’s expected that his replacement will be Nuno Espirito Santo will be the replacement, with the manager flying into England last night.
Marinakis Jr has now sent message to Cooper after Forest exit
The son of Evangelos Marinakis has worked closely with Cooper during his time at the club. He’s enjoyed some good times along with the head coach and clearly, this was a tough decision.
After Cooper left Forest, Marinakis posted a six-word message on his X account. He said: “Thank you for everything, my friend.”
He also posted a love heart emoji and a picture of himself with Cooper and his coaching staff after that memorable day at Wembley when Forest won promotion.
Cooper won’t be forgotten at the City Ground
It’s hard to pinpoint a favourite memory under Cooper at Forest. There was a win over Derby, FA Cup wins over Arsenal and Leicester and then who can forget the memorable semi-final of the play-offs against Sheffield United.
After that, there was the win at Wembley and moving into last season there were famous home wins over Arsenal and Liverpool. Ultimately, Cooper has served the club with drive, purpose and understanding of not just the football club but the entire city of Nottingham.
Marinakis and his dad have clearly had a big decision to make here. It won’t have been an easy one and the hope from their perspective will be that they don’t rue the day they dismissed Cooper from his Forest role.
