Nuno praises Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi

Well, Nottingham Forest manager Nuno has been speaking about Taiwo Awoniyi ahead of the Premier League match against Newcastle United at the City Ground on Saturday evening.

Nuno has said that Awoniyi is improving and can really help his Forest team in the coming weeks and months.

The striker, who has been on the books of the Reds since the summer of 2022 when he joined from Union Berlin for £17.5 million (Sky Sports), scored the winning spot kick for Forest in their FA Cup win against Bristol City in midweek.

Nuno told BBC Sport about Awoniyi: “He’s improving. He’s been out for a long time, he played sooner than we expected him to play. He did well.

“As long as he has energy, he can really help and we have to manage the momentum to use him. Totally different players – Taiwo and Chris – so the team needs to adapt to a new striker. Having both available will be great.”

My View: Taiwo Awoniyi will play an important role

In my opinion, Taiwo Awoniyi will play an important role for Nottingham Forest in the coming weeks and months.

Forest are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season. The Reds are only two points above the Premier League bottom three.

So, Nuno needs all of his fit and available players to make an impact. Chris Wood is the number one striker at Forest, but when he is not available, Awoniyi will have to step up.

The 26-year-old Nigeria international striker has made nine starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for Forest so far this season. He has scored five goals and provided two assists in those games.

Wood has made nine starts and 11 substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Reds this campaign. The 32-year-old former Newcastle United striker has scored eight goals and given one assist in those matches.
