Kelvin Wilson isn’t convinced that Divock Origi is the man to fire Nottingham Forest to Premier League safety this season.

The former defender has been discussing the Belgian striker on the Forest Focus podcast.

So, what has Wilson had to say about Forest striker Origi? Let’s take a closer look…

What Kelvin Wilson has said about Divock Origi at Nottingham Forest

Well, like many supporters, it would appear that Wilson is yet to really be convinced by Origi since he signed on loan from AC Milan.

The player has barely played for the Reds, starting just two matches in the Premier League since checking in from the San Siro giants.

It was claimed in January that Origi could leave Forest, with MLS outfit Los Angeles FC keen to sign him at one point.

Wilson hasn’t been left impressed with the Belgium international and he doesn’t think he’s the striker for Forest.

He told the Forest Focus podcast: “I think with Origi, I’m not too sure about him as well. We talk about quality and he’s come from Liverpool but we talk about what Forest need and I don’t think he suits that.

“He’s a bit of a player that needs to play for a team that has a lot of possession and they’re on top in a lot of games. At Forest, he’s coming on when the team needs a goal and I don’t think he’s the guy that’s going to get us the goal.”

It’s fair to say that Wilson has a point!

Origi should have been replaced in January

Okay, so Forest wanted to try and save money to a certain degree in January – and the timing of Chris Wood’s injury didn’t seemingly help things.

However, Forest should have offloaded Origi or viewed January signing Rodrigo Ribeiro as the man to come in and deputies for Taiwo Awoniyi.

It’s not clear how much of Origi’s £120,000-a-week wage Forest are paying – but he’s done little to suggest that he should have been kept.

Forest were linked with a move for Chuba Akpom during the January transfer window.

He might have been an underwhelming addition to the ranks but with nine goals this season, at least he is a striker that has been scoring goals.

Wilson is right when he says that Origi has largely been successful at clubs that play possession-based football and that just isn’t Forest.

Not getting rid of the 28-year-old in January and signing a replacement does look like a bit of an oversight from a Forest perspective.
