Nottingham Forest chairman Tom Cartledge has outlined how club owner Evangelos Marinakis feels about the situation regarding the City Ground.

Tom Cartledge has said that Evangelos Marinakis is not happy that Nottingham Forest could have to relocate from the City Ground.

According to BBC Sport, the City Ground is on land leased from the city council. Only 33 years are left on the current deal.

The authority is demanding an increase in the rent from £250,000 to about £1 million.

Forest chairman Cartledge has said that club owner Marinakis is not happy. He has said that the Premier League club could have to scrap stadium redevelopment plans and relocate.

Why Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is not happy

According to BBC Sport, there have been discussions about Forest buying the freehold on a permanent basis.

Forest were reportedly given planning permission for the stadium expansion in 2022. The Nottingham City Council has told BBC Sport that it had been in talks with the Reds about options for the future.

Cartledge told BBC: “We find ourselves in a position where for the first time we’re having to consider whether the future is going to be away from the City Ground.

“In the future, football clubs’ wage bills are going to be very heavily linked to revenue. If we can’t grow the revenue, there is a realistic chance we cannot achieve our objectives and grow the playing side and give the manager the resources he needs.

“Unless we start to see some significant progress, it is now having to be a realistic discussion point as to look elsewhere.

“I’m frustrated, the owner is frustrated, because what he wants to do is give back to what he promised the people of Forest which is growth on and off the field and not to be able to do that is tough.”

Nottingham Forest have more pressing concerns

While I think that Nottingham Forest need to sort out the issue over rent for the City Ground, they have more pressing concerns.

For Forest to grow as a club and be successful in the future, they have to stay in the Premier League. The team have to do well on the pitch for off-pitch success.

At the moment, Forest are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season. They will take on Liverpool this weekend and have been tipped to lose.

Nuno’s side are 17th in the Premier League table at the moment with 24 points from 26 matches, four points above Luton Town, who are third from bottom and have played 25 games.
