Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has hailed one Nottingham Forest player that his team struggled to contain yesterday. The Eagles left the City Ground with a point as the two teams drew 1-1.

Forest battled hard in this game after a pretty abject first half that saw them go a goal behind following a Jean-Philippe Mateta goal. Chris Wood equalised for the Reds, scoring his 11th goal in all competitions this season.

Forest climbed out of the relegation zone at the first time of asking following their points deduction for breaching financial fair play charges. However, the team will need to play better than this moving forward.

Forest had some standout performers against the Eagles on home soil yesterday. Indeed, Glasner hinted that his team struggled to cope with the threat of one player in particular.

Oliver Glasner raves about one Nottingham Forest player

Well, had things been different, the Austrian might have been in the Forest dugout yesterday. Glasner was sought by Forest when Steve Cooper was sacked but Evangelos Marinakis chose not to appoint him.

The 49-year-old was eventually snapped up by Palace instead. In his first four games in charge, the Eagles have won one, lost one and drawn two; although it’s been clear what he’s trying to do in all of those games he’s overseen.

After yesterday’s game, Glasner spoke to the media about the threat that Forest posed. There was one player who came in for some praise from the Palace manager.

The Austrian told the South London Press: “Chris Wood is a fantastic player in the box. In this situation, we didn’t get enough pressure on the ball.”

Wood can keep Forest up this season

It’s been a remarkable season for the 32-year-old striker really. After signing from Newcastle, he was largely written off as an expensive, past his best, dud by the fan base – but that hasn’t been the case.

Wood is now on eleven goals for the campaign and frankly, he’s been a real menace in attack. His goal yesterday drew praise from Pat Nevin and he called Wood a ‘genius’.

With Taiwo Awoniyi currently out injured, Wood has to keep himself fit and firing. If he does that he has a good chance of reaching 15 goals minimum this season and Forest would welcome his scoring run continuing a little while longer.
