One Nottingham Forest player has now revealed he would have actually stayed with his old club – had they offered him a new contract.

The Garibaldi have been busy so far this summer, signing four new players as Elliot Anderson, Eric da Silva Moreira, Marko Stamenic and Carlos Miguel move to the City Ground.

Now, the latter has made an interesting revelation at Nottingham Forest

Carlos Miguel admits he would have stayed at Corinthians

Nottingham Forest announced the £3.4m signing of Miguel from Corinthians on Tuesday – after activating the Brazilian goalkeeper’s release clause.

It was an exit that sparked fury at Corinthians, as club legend Cassio was only recently sold so the 25-year-old could become the outright No.1 for the Brazilian giants.

Speaking to Benjamin Back about the criticism that came his way as he prepared to leave Corinthians, Miguel has now blamed the Série A side for not making more of an effort to keep him.

When asked if he would have stayed with Corinthians – if they had offered a new contract – the South American said: “Yes, I would have. Nobody will ever take away my joy of playing in my life. The whole world could be against me.

“I’m not going there (Nottingham Forest) to make loads of money, like everyone else is saying. Do people want to say something? Go ahead. Except I’ve said it, I’m going to shut up everyone who does that.”

Matz Sels may have a challenge on his hands at Nottingham Forest

After hearing these defiant comments from Miguel, Matz Sels might be fearing for his No.1 spot.

The man from Rio de Janeiro has inadvertently sent a message to the Belgian by saying “nobody will ever take away my joy of playing” – obviously aimed at Corinthians, but surely applicable to the current Nottingham Forest No.1 standing in his way of regular action.

Of course, Miguel will have to prove himself to Nuno Espirito Santo before dislodging Sels from in between the sticks, but judging by his bold comments, he is ready to do exactly that.
