Nottingham Forest now have their second 90 minutes of this summer’s pre-season under their belt with a draw in Spain against Sunderland.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s men were forced to come from behind in the sun after Murillo’s error allowed Jack Clarke to convert from the spot.

However, a shock goal from Omar Richards in his first appearance for Forest secured the Reds a draw to keep their unbeaten start to the summer rolling.

Forest had the better of the action at the Pinatar Arena with Nuno heavily rotating his side again as he fielded two different XIs.

But there was one moment, in particular, which really shocked former Forest player Julian Bennett.

Nottingham Forest secure draw against Sunderland in Spain

It has been a solid start to the summer both on and off the pitch for Nuno and his men at the City Ground.

Forest have just welcomed another new addition in the shape of the Serbian defender Nikola Milenkovic who has signed on a £48k-per-week contract.

As for action on the pitch, Forest have now been able to return four goals across their opening two friendly games with only one conceded.

Next up for Forest is a game against Millwall which may allow Nuno the opportunity to provide Milenkovic with his debut.

The former Forest player, Bennett, was featuring on the commentary duty for Forest TV‘s broadcast of the game in Spain.

And it is fair to say the goal from Richards left him absolutely stunned after the jinking move from Anthony Elanga was cannoned home.

“Wow! Wow! Wow! What a goal, fantastic,” Bennett said following Richards’ goal.

“It was definitely worth the wait, wasn’t it! The turn from Elanga… a perfectly waited pass and the finish was sublime. Wow, what a goal! That was cooked up.”

Time for Omar Richards to prove himself at Forest

Having signed for Forest back in 2022, Richards has since found himself out on loan with Olympiacos with Friday night marking his first minutes for the club.

It has even been claimed that it is likely Richards would leave Forest again on loan this summer.

However, the left-back was given an opportunity in Spain and has shown Nuno just what he may have been missing.

Richards did not have a lot of defensive work to do, but he made no mistake when given the opportunity to shoot inside the box.

An interesting few weeks await the 26-year-old.
