Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville disagree on where Nottingham Forest will finish this season

Last night saw the first Monday Night Football of the campaign and talk naturally turned towards Nottingham Forest.

The Premier League has now begun with all 20 teams now featuring in action for the first time this season.

Forest had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Antoine Semenyo cancelling out Chris Wood’s goal with a late equaliser at the City Ground.

The Reds still have some gaps in their squad and in the last few days, Forest have been linked with Santiago Gimenez.

Last night, Forest were discussed and regular MNF pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher had a minor disagreement over the Reds.

It will come as no surprise to supporters that the pair of pundits discussed Forest as part of their relegation predictions.

Neville went first and he can’t see beyond the three promoted teams – Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton – all making an instant return to the EFL.

Carragher, however, believes Forest are in the mix based on their form of the last two years since winning promotion.

He told Sky Sports Premier League: “I think Nottingham Forest have been close every season. And I think eventually, the trapdoor opens.”

Forest must look to emulate Brighton in the Premier League

Fair enough, Jamie, Forest have only narrowly avoided relegation during the two seasons that the club has been back in the Premier League.

However, so did Brighton when they came up and nobody was predicting that the trap door would eventually open on them.

The Seagulls finished 15th twice, 16th and 17th before kicking on and establishing themselves as a Premier League football club.

Now, Forest have a similar job on their hands as they bid to prove pundits – like Carragher – wrong this season.

There is quality in the dressing room and after a full pre-season together, Forest really need to show something this season to kick on in this division.

Neville is normally the one with something negative to say about Forest but this time around it’s Carragher that the team will be hoping to prove badly wrong.
