The transfer window is winding down but for Nottingham Forest, it remains a race against the clock to sign a sought-after striker target.

Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to add more firepower to his squad with Chris Wood not getting any younger and Taiwo Awoniyi fighting a fitness battle.

David Ornstein claimed yesterday that Eddie Nketiah is on the shortlist at Forest, with the Arsenal man considered the number-one target.

Graeme Bailey told us exclusively, however, that Santiago Gimenez was the top priority for Forest – and now some more news on him has come to light.

Santiago Gimenez makes Nottingham Forest decision

It would seem as though it’s somewhat bad news for Forest – at least for now.

According to VI in Holland, it’s claimed that Gimenez would like to spend another year at Feyenoord and isn’t bothered about a move to Forest.

It’s claimed in the report that he’s quite relaxed over whether he moves away from the Rotterdam-based outfit this summer or not.

Gimenez was the subject of a first bid of £21 million from Forest – which is miles short of Feyenoord’s current valuation.

They’re looking to recoup in the region of £30 million and the Reds will have to up the ante considerably if a deal is to be forced.

Even then – on the back of this news – Forest might be trying to sign a player who has very little interest in even moving to Nottingham this summer.

Forest will have other irons in the fire

Gimenez isn’t the only striker being linked with Forest and perhaps Nketiah is going to be the fallback option.

There will be other names on the list, however, with Forest taking a meticulous approach to their recruitment this season.

Gimenez has seemingly said no for now but if Forest up the ante and return with a higher bid, this could turn into a game of poker.

The Mexican will know he’s got to be careful in saying he wants to leave Feyenoord because right now there is no saying that a club will match his valuation.

If he preaches that he wants to leave and then doesn’t, that makes him a target for criticism from the Feyenoord fan base.

The last 10 days of the transfer window promise to throw up a few surprises and hopefully, Forest can get a much-needed striker over the line before things slam shut.
