Nottingham Forest and their search for another striker looks set to take a drastic turn for the worse.

Earlier today, it was claimed by John Percy that Forest were edging closer to the signing of Santiago Gimenez.

The news came shortly after it became apparent that Eddie Nketiah had been unable to agree personal terms with Forest.

Gimenez was thought to be ready to move to Forest, with negotiations over a deal going well it was being claimed.

Now, things have taken a twist and it’s not looking overly rosy for Forest when it comes to confirming this deal.

Santiago Gimenez now rejects Nottingham Forest

It’s come to light in the last few hours that Forest have been left frustrated in their efforts to persuade Gimenez to sign for the club.

TNT Sports Mexico have information from journalist Daniel Villasenor and he is now claiming that Gimenez has rejected Forest and he doesn’t want to move to England during the current transfer window.

Gimenez has been a long-term target of Forest, with the player bagging 26 goals during the 2023/24 campaign – helping Feyenoord qualify for the Champions League.

It would seem as though the lure of playing in that competition has proved too strong and it looks as though he will remain in Rotterdam.

With Nketiah and Gimenez now seemingly off the radar for Forest, the club don’t have too long to get their business sorted this month.

Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi are at the club but it’s fair to say that another striker would have been ideal this month.

Gimenez has played Forest like a fiddle

This is a ridiculous saga at this point and Forest have to prepare to move on now.

Since Percy’s article saying things were close, it’s been claimed that Gimenez was happy to sign for Forest and a five-year deal had been agreed.

It was also believed that the player was waiting to board a plane to England ready to finalise the move in the coming days.

Now, if this latest update is to be believed, it represents quite a u-turn and Forest don’t have time to keep messing around.

If this is true, Forest must just walk way and work their way down their list of strikers, desperately trying to get one in before the transfer window slams shut on Friday.

Gimenez would have been ideal and it remains to be seen if any more updates will come to light on this piece of business.
