Nottingham Forest and Santiago Gimenez are words that even fans of the football club are sick of seeing in the same sentence.

This a saga to rival the Darren Pratley links in the early noughties or the Chris Gunter money – and it’s showing no sign of letting up.

Yesterday, it was claimed that Forest were getting close to the signing of Gimenez but then hours later it was believed that a deal was off.

It doesn’t appear as though the deal is quite dead just yet though, with speculation still rife over Forest and the Mexico international.

Fabrizio Romano delivers update on Santiago Gimenez to Nottingham Forest

Well, this is far from a ‘Here we go’ from the main man but it will feel as good as one based on the revelations of yesterday.

Romano has taken to X today to post an update on the situation and all might not be lost just yet.

He said: “Despite new bid rejected yesterday, Nottingham Forest are still trying to make Santiago Gimenez deal happen.

“He’s the top target and despite other links, #NFFC are still trying to find a way.

“Complicated deal but Forest not giving up yet.”

Gimenez bagged 26 goals last season as Feyenoord qualified for the Champions League and playing in that competition must be tempting.

It was claimed earlier that Bayer Leverkusen could be interested in Gimenez and it remains to be seen whether that will come to fruition.

Forest can’t waste too much time on Gimenez

Okay, there is something to admire that Forest are wanting to continue pursuing the number one target but there has to be a cut-off point.

Gimenez is a quality striker and at 23-years-old, it would appear that he’s got a very high ceiling with potential for him to improve.

The striker has been courted by other Premier League clubs in the past and it’s no surprise that he’s not jumped at the chance to come straight to Forest.

Still, the chance to test himself at a higher level won’t be available forever and Forest might have provided him with a good opportunity.

Gimenez would play regularly at Forest and he’d have the chance to become a hero at the football club by taking the Reds to a comfortable position in the Premier League.

Now, it’s down to Nuno Espirito Santo and Evangelos Marinakis to convince him that Forest is the club for him.
