Nottingham Forest are making one last play to try and sign a player who has been sought-after for the entire summer transfer window.
With the deadline looming large on Friday night, Forest are ramping up their efforts to get the player the club desperately craves at the top end of the pitch.
Forest missed out on Eddie Nketiah and had hoped to wrap up that deal late last week before a hitch was outlined in the negotiations.
Now, Forest have moved their attention elsewhere and since the weekend there has been an ongoing sage involving the Reds and Santiago Gimenez.
Nottingham Forest fly out for talks with Santiago Gimenez
It’s time for Forest to get serious and it’s claimed by 1908 that Forest have flown out representatives today to meet with Gimenez.
The player doesn’t operate with an agent and the talks will be conducted on behalf of Evangelos Marinakis – likely by Ross Wilson – with the striker and his dad.
Gimenez bagged 26 goals in the Eredivisie last season and he will have to be convinced to walk away from Champions League football in order to sign for Forest.
Forest are desperate to wrap up a deal for Gimenez, however, and are clearly leaving no stone unturned in their attempts to bring the striker in.
It’s perhaps intriguing that Forest are now flying out for face-to-face talks and clearly the Reds feel that Gimenez can be swayed to sign for the club.
Forest have nothing to lose by pushing for Gimenez
Clearly, Gimenez and Nketiah were top targets for the striker signing this summer and with Nketiah off the table, this makes perfect sense.
The Mexican talisman is clearly the one that Forest truly want and it will be fascinating to see whether Forest can conclude a deal.
Intriguingly, the expectations surrounding Forest for the current campaign could change drastically if Gimenez signs for the club.
If he comes in and showcases the sort of form that he has for Feyenoord, perhaps Forest can start looking at the positions closer to mid-table and possibly beyond.
Marinakis clearly wants this deal to happen and now he will have everything crossed that Gimenez can be persuaded that his future belongs at Forest.
