Nottingham Forest are now in talks with Newcastle United over Anthony Elanga – but there may not be enough time to strike a deal.
Nuno Espirito Santo is on the verge of landing a couple of new signings on transfer deadline day.
James Ward-Prowse and Morato are set to join Nottingham Forest, bolstering Nuno’s options in midfield and at the back respectively.
Transfer deadline days tend to be pretty hectic around Forest and there could yet be a major departure from the City Ground.

Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United latest
Reports suggest that Newcastle United are now making a late push to sign Anthony Elanga from Forest before the transfer deadline.
Newcastle have been linked with Elanga for a long time now but the Magpies are seemingly leaving it late.
Forest fans everywhere will be hoping that the move has come too late – and that may well be the case.
The Daily Mail (17:22) report that Newcastle have made an approach to sign Elanga but it is ‘too late in the day’ to actually finalise the deal.
Those claims come from Newcastle-based reporter Craig Hope, so there seemingly isn’t too much confidence in the North East that a deal can be thrashed out.
That sentiment has also been backed up by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who has told The Dealsheet: Live that he does not believe the Elanga deal will proceed at this time.
With just a few hours of the window left to go, Newcastle may simply run out of time to get Elanga on board before the window slams shut.
Potential Elanga fee
More claims have emerged from Tyneside though with Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie sharing information on social media.
Downie claims that talks are ongoing between Newcastle and Forest with a deal in the region of £35million mentioned.
Magpies boss Eddie Howe is understood to be a big fan of Elanga and would love to bring him to St James’ Park.
However, it’s stated that Forest have ‘no desire to sell’ and may even hold out for more than the £35million mentioned.
It’s worth factoring in that Forest would almost certainly need to find a replacement for Elanga if he was to be sold.
That would be a tough ask, especially in terms of replacing a player of Elanga’s quality, and Forest are certainly right to hold out for a huge price tag this late in the window.
