Callum Hudson-Odoi shares what he did for Nottingham Forest this season that really upset his dad

Nottingham Forest have made a strong start to the 2024/25 campaign as the club aims to really show they can compete in the Premier League.

The first two campaigns back in the top flight have seen Forest remain in the league by the skin of their teeth and Evangelos Mariankis will want that to improve.

With Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm, there is a real sense that things can move forward and nine points from six games also suggest as much.

Forest’s season highlight to date undoubtedly came when the Reds managed to claim a big three points from Liverpool at Anfield.

Callum Hudson-Odoi scored the only goal of the game that day, his only goal of the Premier League campaign so far.

The Reds are still striving for a winning formula with two wins and three draws from six games so far but there is optimism that things can start to turn this season.

Callum Hudson-Odoi shares what his dad said after his goal vs Liverpool

Forest defied the odds against Liverpool with the Reds winning at Anfield for the first time since 1969 to silence the home crowd.

The Reds haven’t really kicked on since then and the defeat to Fulham left the Forest head coach disappointed at the weekend.

Hudson-Odoi is a player who has the backing of the fans, however, and he was actually left on the bench originally for the game against Liverpool.

He stepped off the bench to score a winner in the 72nd minute and in doing so he risked the wrath of his family – not least his old man!

Hudson-Odoi told the Daily Mail: “I got a great message from my dad. It said: “I love you son and I am proud of you… but I hate what you’ve done to my team”. I have so many Liverpool fans around me. My brother, my dad. So I knew if we won they would kill me!”

Nuno Espirito Santo must play Callum Hudson-Odoi from the off more often

Hudson-Odoi was once again on the bench on Saturday and he really shouldn’t be missing home games against teams around Forest in the league.

That was an oversight on the part of Forest boss Espirito Santo and he will be learning a lot about his current squad.

Hudson-Odoi lives for the big moments and he’s been there and done it when it comes to playing for a big club and playing in big matches.

At 23-years-old, Hudson-Odoi should be starting every game – fitness-depending – and Espirito Santo would be wise to give him a prolonged run in the team.

Forest can’t afford to be messing around with their better players and when it comes to Hudson-Odoi he absolutely has to be starting more often than not.
