Nottingham Forest really have hit the jackpot when it comes to the signing of Chris Wood.
The striker signed for Forest for £15 million and Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted that he didn’t really want to offload Wood.
Forest included a clause in a loan deal to sign the striker that the move would become permanent after three starts. It’s fair to say that was met with angst from supporters.
But, Wood hasn’t been bothered by any early reservations. Last season, he scored 15 goals in all competitions and Forest managed to stay in the Premier League because of his strikes.
This season, he’s picked up where he left off too. Last weekend, Wood scored his fourth of the season and drew praise from Ally McCoist for his continued efforts.
Wood bagged another goal for New Zealand in a game against Tahiti recently and he’s made some intriguing claims following the 3-0 win for the All Whites.

Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood makes surprise claim about his career
It’s been claimed recently that Forest are going to offer Wood a new contract. He will be a free agent in the summer and the Reds aren’t ready to let him walk away for nothing just yet.
Wood will be 33-years-old in December, however, and might be forgiven for thinking about what comes next once the days of playing professional football are behind him.
It seems as though Wood has no desire to stop playing though and has actually delivered an intriguing claim when quizzed on when he might think about booting the boots on the peg for the final time.
He told The New Zealand Herald: “For me, football is my life. And I do want to play as long as possible. That’s the mindset and the plan at the moment. Five to six years is probably what I’m looking at. I’d love to go to 38 but it’s obviously down to a lot of things.”
Wood deserves new Forest contract
The striker’s game has never been about blistering pace and ultimately, Forest would be wise to offer a new contract to Wood whilst he’s in this goalscoring form.
If the club doesn’t, another Premier League club could pounce and get themselves a player who is currently performing in the top flight and scoring goals.
Wood is currently playing out of his skin. Furthermore, he has a manager who clearly fancies him in Nuno Espirito Santo and he’s thriving under the regular game time.
The 32-year-old has proved everyone wrong – with Wood even praised by Roy Keane – and it’s imperative that Forest don’t become the sort of club that lets good players leave for nothing.
