Chris Wood is one of the best strikers in the Premier League at the moment, which is crazy to think about when you hear what a current international manager said about the Nottingham Forest star.

Nottingham Forest would never have expected Chris Wood to be as good as he has been since making the move to the City Ground, but Steve Cooper clearly saw something in him.

The New Zealand international has bagged an impressive seven goals in nine games, which puts him joint-third with Cole Palmer in the Premier League.

Robbie Earle has hailed Chris Wood for completely transforming his career at the City Ground, and this is just the start of the season so there will hopefully be plenty more goals to come.

Wood has been good at previous clubs like Burnley and Leeds United, but he’s showing a prolific touch that only seems to be getting better with age.

Indeed, it’s now always been easy for Wood, as Ben Foster shared a conversation he had with one current international manager as a kid.

Ben Foster shares what Chris Wood was told during his time at West Bromwich Albion

Ben Foster is now retired and runs his own podcast with a couple of mates and numerous guests.

However, he was once at West Brom alongside Chris Wood when he was just a kid, and has now shared a story that many Nottingham Forest fans won’t believe.

Speaking on the Cycling GK YouTube channel, Foster shared the conversation Wood had with current Scotland manager Steve Clarke.

“I was with him when he was at West Brom as a kid. I think it was Steve Clarke the manager at the time let him go, just let him go fully. He was like, no, sorry Chris, you’re too big, you’re too slow, you’re too cumbersome.

“Didn’t even get a sniff, didn’t even get a look in.”

Chris Wood now too big for West Bromwich Albion

To hear that Chris Wood was told he was too big as a kid is crazy to think about now, as it’s his strength and big presence that he utilises to his advantage to score some of his goals.

Even Gary Neville admitted he’s super impressed by Wood, stating that he thought strikers like him would have become extinct years ago.

The fact that Wood has now equaled Stan Collymore for Nottingham Forest goals in the Premier League, and is now only two behind Bryan Roy, shows how far he’s come.
