Gary Lineker calls himself an ‘idiot’ for prediction he made about Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are quietly going about their business in the Premier League this season.

Many pundits and so-called experts have already been forced to back down on their pre-season predictions, with Forest third in the Premier League.

Robbie Earle predicted Forest to go down and has already admitted that he’s changed his mind on that choice.

TalkSPORT commentator Sam Matterface has also made a U-turn on his early prediction that a season of struggle was in store.

Chris Wood has been given a new nickname by Shay Given after he scored his eighth goal in 10 games this season against West Ham on Saturday.

Ultimately, Forest are making people stand up and take notice and that can only bode well as the club looks to properly establish as a Premier League club this season.

Gary Lineker makes Nottingham Forest U-turn

This must have hurt Lineker considering it comes a little over a week since Forest thrashed Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

Now, he’s admitted that he wants to give praise to Forest and more importantly the job that Nuno Espirito Santo has done.

He said on the Rest is Football podcast: “They deserve a lot of praise and what a job Nuno has done since he’s been there.

“It’s refreshing to see a club like Forest flying like that, hopefully, I say through clenched teeth, they continue to do well.

“I can’t believe I tipped them to go down. What an idiot! Apologies to all Nottingham Forest fans, I’m a fool!”

Forest must stay grounded and focus on bigger challenges

It’s hard to imagine that many would call the start Forest have to the campaign easy in terms of the team played.

Forest have played Liverpool, Brighton and Chelsea away from home and come through all of those games without a blemish on the fixture list.

On home soil, there have been easier games. Bournemouth, Wolves, Fulham, Crystal Palace and West Ham have all visited Trentside this season.

Still, Forest can only focus on what is in front of them and it’s just great to have some points on the board early on.

Newcastle will provide a sterner test on Sunday but there is no reason why Forest can’t be positive going into that one.

Lineker has joined many pundits in backing down on Forest this season and hopefully, now a relegation battle can be avoided.
