Nottingham Forest have a striker in Chris Wood who is playing the best football of his career.

The Reds talisman has scored eight goals in 10 matches during the 2024/25 campaign and sits second in the list of leading goalscorers.

Going into the game with Newcastle on Sunday, Forest sit third in the Premier League – although that might change before kick-off depending on the Saturday results.

Nonetheless, it’s been a tremendous start to the new season, with Wood at the forefront of everything good about Forest.

Nuno Espirito Santo has got a tune out of the striker and since he replaced Steve Cooper, Wood has been his number one player to lead the line.

Shay Given gave Wood a comical new nickname after his goal against West Ham last week.

Likewise, Alan Shearer has been very complimentary about Wood and it’s great that Forest have a player who simply can’t stop scoring in the ranks.

Chris Wood officially does something no other Nottingham Forest player has managed

There really is no stopping Wood at the moment.

The player is in fine goalscoring form and earlier today he was officially announced as the Premier League Player of the Month for October.

Wood scored four goals during the month, with two coming against Leicester and one coming in each of the other two games against Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

Now, Wood has won the Player of the Month accolade and in doing so he’s become the first Forest player to ever achieve that feat.

Forest completed a double whammy with Nuno Espirito Santo also claiming the Manager of the Month award for October.

Wood deserves new Forest contract

The striker is in the form of his life and right now he is richly deserving of a new contract with the club.

It’s been a remarkable transformation for the striker who was ridiculed when he first signed for the club from Newcastle in 2023.

The Reds will see Wood’s contract expire in the summer of 2025 and on current form, other clubs might be eyeing a cushty free transfer.

Forest can’t let that happen and this contract situation must be ironed out quickly to avoid any uncertainty.

Wood has kept himself in quality shape and whist he’s in this sort of goalscoring form the club has to move quickly to tie him to a new deal.
