Nottingham Forest had a brilliant summer transfer window with the exception of not signing a striker that somehow eluded the Reds.
It wasn’t through a lack of trying, however.
Eddie Nketiah spoke to Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace and then changed his mind after seemingly giving Forest his word.
Then there was Omar Marmoush who was linked with Forest but chose to stay with Eintracht Frankfurt on transfer deadline day.
Nuno Espirito Santo advised Evangelos Marinakis to keep his money and he was undeterred in an effort to go with Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi as his two talismen.
Perhaps this biggest saga of the summer was Forest being linked with Santiago Gimenez.
The striker rejected Forest choosing to stay with Feyenoord and play Champions League football with the Eredivisie outfit.
Last night, that decision looked to be justified.

Santiago Gimenez stuns Manchester City on return
What a night this was in Gimenez’s career.
With Feyenoord 3-0 down head coach Brian Priske turned to Gimenez to get some minutes into the legs of the striker.
He had not played since suffering a serious thigh injury back in September and at the time Forest fans thought they’d dodged a bullet over Gimenez.
The Mexico international showcased his class against Premier League opposition last night, however, by taking part in an unreal comeback.
Gimenez scored the second goal in between strikes by Anis Hadj-Moussa and David Hancko as Feyenoord salvaged a point.
His goal came just nine minutes after he was introduced and left the Etihad Stadium stunned into silence.
Forest will have to dig deep if they want Gimenez in the future
Gimenez is also being eyed by AC Milan and his goals record is pretty brilliant in Holland.
He’s bagged five goals in eight appearances and looks to now be worth in excess of the £30 million that Forest were going to pay in the summer.
Firstly, Gimenez will want to regain his match sharpness and start games for Feyenoord.
However, it’s only natural that one eye will be on the January transfer window and if a club from a top European leagues comes calling, there could be a deal to be struck.
Gimenez gave a small glimpse of his quality last night and scoring against the Premier League champions suggests he wouldn’t be fazed by coming to England.
