Paul Merson makes interesting Nottingham Forest prediction after watching them get ‘destroyed’

Nottingham Forest’s season is on a slight downturn after a couple of defeats, but they have the opportunity to put things right against Ipswich Town.

Saturday’s defeat to Arsenal was arguably the worst so far this season, but let’s not take anything away from how good the Gunners were on the day.

Nuno Espirito Santo was fuming at the defending from his Nottingham Forest side, and rightly so.

Forest have set such high standards on the defensive front this season, and even had the best defence in the Premier League at one point.

Another goal will be conceded at the weekend in the eyes of Paul Merson, who has made an interesting prediction for the Ipswich clash.

Paul Merson makes interesting Nottingham Forest prediction

Paul Merson almost got the Arsenal result spot on last time out, as he predicted 3-1.

However, this time round against Ipswich Town will be a whole different kettle of fish.

The Tractor Boys spoiled Ruben Amorim’s welcome party as they held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Portman Road, and perhaps could have even won it.

It certainly won’t be an easy game at the City Ground. Liam Delap has been in inspired form and Omari Hutchinson poses a big threat, so the defence will need to be back to their best.

Interestingly, Merson predicts a close game that will end 1-1 if he is to have his way.

“I watched Nottingham Forest in the last couple of weeks and I thought they got absolutely destroyed in each of their last two games. We were talking about them having an outside chance for Europe after their impressive start, but Newcastle and Arsenal ripped them apart.

“Ipswich are unbeaten in their last three games and I was very impressed with their performance during the draw with Manchester United. I wouldn’t be surprised if Forest nick this game, but I have a strong feeling that Ipswich will walk away with a point. They are in a confident mood at the moment and could make life hard for Nottingham Forest.”

Nottingham Forest legend calls for Liam Delap to be signed

Nottingham Forest legend Garry Birtles has told Nuno Espirito Santo to go out and sign Liam Delap after his start to the season.

“I haven’t seen much of him but you do read and I’ve heard about him and if he’s scoring goals at that level then we’ve got to be interested in him.

“He’s obviously got something, this level is the hardest in world football to score goals in and Ipswich are putting a great show on for the Premier League.”

However, Manchester City have a buy-back clause and he’s likely to have interest from most clubs in the Premier League, so it won’t be easy.
