Nottingham Forest beat Everton 2-0 in the Premier League on Sunday, in what was the ideal way to round out 2024 for Nuno Espirito Santo.
Forest beat Everton thanks to goals from two of their most important players of 2024, Chris Wood and Morgan-Gibbs White.
Wood was particularly impressive at Goodison Park, opening the scoring with a deft chip before setting up Gibbs-White’s goal after a superb counter-attack.
Forest were once again impressive at the back, too, with Forest fans praising Morato’s display after he was forced to deputise for Murillo who was injured in the warm-up.
Morato’s performance wasn’t the only thing that had Forest fans cheering, though, with one chant in particular highlighting just how happy they are with Espirito Santo and the Forest squad at the moment.

Nottingham Forest fans heard singing brilliant chant vs Everton
The Christmas period couldn’t have gone any better for Forest fans, with an away win at Brentford followed up by Forest’s win over Tottenham on Boxing Day.

Sunday’s win over Everton served to further improve their mood, with one chant in particular being heard from the away end at Goodison Park after Gibbs-White added the second goal.
Journalist Paul Taylor, who was reporting on the match, noted that Forest fans could be heard chanting ‘we’re gonna win the league’ in the second half against Everton, a chant that would’ve been laughed at last season.
However, with Forest temporarily up into second place after the Everton victory, the chant represents just how far the team has come under Espirito Santo in the last 12 months. However, the Forest manager did provide a hint as to the potential of his side this time last year.
Espirito Santo gave Forest fans a promising hint going into 2024
After Steve Cooper was sacked by Forest just before Christmas in 2023, Espirito Santo came into a side that was in the relegation zone.
However, on the final matchday of 2023, Forest beat Manchester United at the City Ground to go into the new year with momentum under their new coach.
Since then Forest have survived relegation and pushed on to become a true challenger for European football as we head into 2025.
Espirito Santo even masterminded another victory over the Red Devils, with Forest winning against Manchester United once more this season, this time at Old Trafford.
It seems highly unlikely that Forest will mount a serious Premier League title challenge in the new year, but for Forest fans to sing that chant and not be instantly dismissed shows the club’s progress since Espirito Santo took charge.
