Nottingham Forest could allow duo who both played vs Everton to leave in January

Potential incomings have dominated Nottingham Forest’s January transfer news so far, but Nuno Espirito Santo is also preparing for potential outgoings.

Ola Aina has been linked with Aston Villa but evidently, Espirito Santo will not be allowing any of the crucial cogs of his Forest squad to leave whilst they sit in the midst of a push for European football.

Forest’s remarkable third-place position in the Premier League table makes the prospect of losing anyone a difficult one, with any wrong change to the dressing room atmosphere having potentially diabolical consequences.

Because of this, a new Forest contract for Morgan Gibbs-White has become a priority for Evangelos Marinakis, as well as Chris Wood being offered a new Forest deal.

However, recent reports have suggested that Espirito Santo and the Forest owner may be ready to sanction moves for two of Forest’s more experienced heads.

Willy Boly and Harry Toffolo could leave Nottingham Forest

Per a report by the Daily Mail, Forest defenders Willy Boly and Harry Toffolo could be two players that the Forest manager would accept losing in the January window.

The report suggested that Boly and Toffolo could be “allowed to move on” from the City Ground, due to the “little action” they have seen under Espirito Santo this season.

However, the report added: “Even those who do not play regularly can contribute effectively to the squad environment and Nuno [Espirito Santo] does not want to upset that delicate balance.”

In a similar vein, Forest look set to keep Taiwo Awoniyi due to his importance to the wider squad but Boly and Toffolo could be more comfortably sacrificed given the better cover in the defence.

One aspect that may make a Boly and Toffolo deal more complicated, though, is that both featured in Forest’s win over Everton.

Boly was introduced in the 69th minute, providing an extra level of height and strength to combat Everton’s move to go more direct to chase the game.

The centre-back won an aerial duel and completed an interception, as well as a single headed clearance from Everton’s numerous crosses.

Toffolo, on the other hand, had slightly more of an impact after coming on in the 82nd minute, providing three aerial clearances and two defensive recoveries as Forest secured a clean sheet at Goodison Park.

Espirito Santo stressed Boly’s importance to Forest this season and with both Boly and Toffolo’s contracts expiring at the end of the season, the potential remains there for the two to remain at the club in January.
