Nottingham Forest have hit the jackpot in appointing Nuno Espirito Santo as the club’s head coach.
Replacing Steve Cooper was always going to be difficult given that he embedded himself not just into Forest but into the city of Nottingham.
Espirito Santo wasn’t the people’s choice. He’d had his nose bloodied by Daniel Levy who hired him at Tottenham and then fired him after 17 matches.
Evangelos Marinakis had held talks with Oliver Glasner who won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt and fans appeared underwhelmed with Espirito Santo.
Naturally, the rest is history now with Forest sat third in the Premier League with 40 points from 20 games and fully on course to claim a European place.
It’s been claimed now that another Premier League manager held talks with Forest prior to Espirito Santo getting the nod to move to the City Ground.

Graham Potter held talks with Nottingham Forest
It’s been claimed by the Daily Mail that the manager held talks with Forest prior to Espirito Santo taking the job over a year ago.
Potter returned to management yesterday when he replaced Julen Lopetegui as the new head coach of West Ham United.
It’s been a long time coming for Potter who has taken a meticulous approach to getting back into work after his debacle at Chelsea.
The manager who favours a 3-4-3 approach to football is one of the more meticulous managers and his methods are very typical of the modern-day way of doing things.
Potter would have been viewed as a like-for-like replacement for Cooper and as a result, it was perhaps easy to see why the club approached him for talks.
Forest struck gold with Espirito Santo
It’s taken some time but Espirito Santo has clearly welcomed having a full pre-season with a group of players who are now all rooting for him.
The head coach has been brilliant for Forest and his tactical approach to games as got the best out of this group of players.
Espirito Santo is working wonders with the tools he’s been given and it’s really exciting to see what Forest can achieve this season.
At the time Potter would have been a useful appointment, however, it will be interesting to see if his approach can be implemented with the season already in full swing.
