Manchester City preparing to swoop in to steal midfielder Nottingham Forest want to sign

Nottingham Forest knocked Luton Town out of the FA Cup on Saturday to progress to round four for the second time under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Reds were always going to be the favourites to beat the plucky Championship strugglers. Forest were great, however, in keeping a fifth clean sheet after making 11 changes.

The stage is now set for Forest to take on Liverpool in a huge Premier League clash on Tuesday night with the Reds looking to claim a seventh successive victory in the Premier League.

Graeme Souness thinks Forest can challenge for the title this season. Now, it’s up to the Reds to flex their credentials and prove to the world that they’re serious about silverware.

January is always a strange month. Forest have to focus on playing football but behind the scenes there are a lot of moving parts taking place as the club tries to bring a player or two in during the transfer window.

Forest have been linked with Douglas Luiz this month. However, signing him could have become a little bit more tricky, with some top European clubs now in the mix to take him.

City are the last team to beat Forest in the Premier League this season. That came all the way back on the 1st December and now Pep Guardiola wants to pip the Reds to the signing of Luiz too.

According to Give Me Sport, Guardiola has identified Luiz as someone who can come in and fill the short-term void vacated by Rodri with his injury seemingly derailing the Citizens’ season.

Luiz has been on the books at City before but left without ever making a first-team appearance. Now, it appears they’re going to place themselves in the race to sign the Brazilian this month.

The midfielder only moved to Juventus in the summer from Aston Villa. He helped Unai Emery’s team qualify for the Champions League during 2023/24 but could now be on his way back to the Premier League.

Forest don’t have concrete interest in midfielder this month

Danilo made a long-awaited return for Forest yesterday. He broke his ankle on the opening day of the season and stepped off the bench for the final five minutes of yesterday’s 2-0 win.

Furthermore, we were exclusively told last week that Forest aren’t actively looking to sign a midfielder this month. That might change as the window progresses but right now there is nothing particularly urgent.

Forest are in a glorious position right now. The team has 40 points from 20 games and unlike in previous years in the Premier League, the squad is very settled going into the January window.

As a result, signing players might not be the best thing to do this month and it could be a case of sticking with the current crop as Forest chase down a place in Europe next month.

Luiz is a quality player but it’s hard to see where he fits into the Forest team. With that in mind, it could be Manchester City that hold the aces when it comes to this deal.
