Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been linked with a move to West Ham United this month with game time in short supply at the City Ground.

Forest have a red-hot talisman in Chris Wood. The New Zealand international bagged his 13th goal of the season on Tuesday night against Liverpool and he’s kept Awoniyi kicking his heels.

Awoniyi signed for Forest for £17.5 million from Union Berlin. During his maiden season in the Premier League, he bagged 11 goals to keep the Reds in the division with a game to spare.

Injuries and the form of another Forest striker have hampered him this season. Wood hailed Awoniyi for the work he’s been doing behind the scenes and it seems he’s popular in the dressing room.

Now, with West Ham reportedly keen on Awoniyi, we’ve received some information on the situation explained exclusively to Nottingham Forest News.

Nottingham Forest want to keep Taiwo Awoniyi

Graeme Bailey has dropped this information straight into the lap of Nottingham Forest News and it sounds as though Awoniyi is wanted by the Reds.

The striker has been through the mill a bit this season. He’s had to contend with injuries again and when he has been fit to play, he’s found Wood an immovable object in the starting eleven.

Bailey understands that Forest don’t want to sell Awoniyi this month and are planning to keep him. He claims the interest isn’t really a thing anymore and that any talk of West Ham coming forward is wide of the mark.

With Forest being linked with Yoane Wissa this is an intriguing update. Awoniyi staying would see Forest have a different option to Wood but perhaps his lack of form is the real worry for Espirito Santo.

Nottingham Forest want Gabriel Sara

Awoniyi might be linked with a move away from the club but targets are being identified all of the time too by Forest.

Some of them won’t have any substance such is the nature of the media at this time of the season but others are proving quite intriguing.

One player Forest like is Gabriel Sara who starred at Norwich in the Championship. He moved to Galatasaray in the summer for a fee of over £20 million and is enjoying a decent campaign.

Sara typically operates as a central midfielder. As a result, it would make more sense to land him in the summer when the need for a central midfielder might be greater than it is right now.
